Mets four-time All-Star Jacob deGrom 'penciled in' for follow-up MRI

Two weeks ago, New York Mets two-time Cy Young Award winner Jacob deGrom was scratched from his spring training start and was headed for an MRI on his ailing shoulder. Then it was announced just before Opening Day, that deGrom would be placed on the 10-day IL.

It was reported Friday morning, just hours before the Mets were slated to host the Arizona Diamondbacks in their 2022 home opener, that the 33-year-old would be headed for a second MRI before the end of April.

Jacob deGrom said he is penciled in for a follow-up MRI a week from Monday (10 days from now).

He recently got a bone scan — the further imaging Buck Showalter mentioned — which confirmed the original stress reaction diagnosis.

deGrom made just 15 starts in 2021, with his final one coming in July, before he was shut down for the year due to an elbow injury. He earned the NL Rookie of the Year award in 2014 and is a two-time NL Cy Young Award winner.

The DeLand, Fla., native led the league in ERA (1.70) in 2018 and strikeouts in 2019 (255) and 2020 (104) and has a 2.50 career ERA and a 1.01 WHIP, but has gone just 77-53 in 198 games started.
