New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor has been one of the best players at his position in Major League Baseball for years. Lindor has spent 11 seasons in the majors, boasting a slash line of .273/.342/.475 with an .817 OPS to go along with 279 home runs, 856 RBIs and 216 stolen bases in 1,535 career games.

The Caguas, Puerto Rico, native has been to five MLB All-Star Games, won four Silver Slugger Awards, two Gold Gloves and one Platinum Glove, which is given to the best defender in all of baseball each year.

Lindor began his professional career in the Cleveland Guardians organization after Cleveland selected him eighth overall in the 2011 MLB Draft. After six major league seasons there, he was traded to the Mets in January 2021.

The 32-year-old shortstop is coming off an extremely productive 2025 season with New York. He batted .267 with an OPS of .811, totaling 31 home runs, 86 RBIs and 31 stolen bases. This was his second 30-30 season in the past three years.

Heading into the 2026 season, hopes are high that Lindor can have another great season, helping get the Mets back to the playoffs. However, before spring training began, he underwent surgery to repair a stress reaction in his left hamate bone.

On Tuesday, New York Post reporter Jon Heyman provided an update on the status of Lindor's injury and where things stand for him being available for Opening Day.

"Francisco Lindor played catch yesterday and the hope is he’s able to take batting practice tomorrow. Seems like a good sign for the notoriously quick healing Lindor to reach his goal to play Opening Day," Heyman said.

It is newsworthy that he will likely take batting practice on Wednesday because this would be the first time he's done so since the surgery on Feb. 11.

Having Lindor ready for when the Mets begin the regular season on March 26 against the Pittsburgh Pirates would be huge for New York, as Lindor has missed just 15 games across the past four years.
