The New York Mets have finally received some encouraging news on the injury front.
Prior to their game against the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB .com reported that Jared Young will begin a rehab assignment for the Mets at the end of the week. The utility man has been on the injured list since April 15 with a meniscus tear in his left knee.

Young began this season for the Mets on their Opening Day roster after signing a one-year deal with the club last offseason. The 30-year-old also spent parts of the 2025 campaign with New York, appearing in 23 games.
Prior to landing on the IL, Young was playing well for the Mets offensively, slashing .350/.391/.450 with a .841 OPS in 11 games. Young's versatility was also on full display, playing five games at first base, one in left field and three in right field.

It goes without saying that the Amazins' have been decimated by injuries this season. The team placed Francisco Álvarez on the 10-day injured list today with a right meniscus tear after exiting mid at-bat last night against the Tigers.
Álvarez's timetable of six to eight weeks is similar to Young's when he was placed on the shelf nearly a month ago.
The Mets are also without Francisco Lindor (left calf strain), Jorge Polanco (Achilles), and Luis Robert Jr. (lumbar disc herniation), with no clear timetable on when they may return.
The Mets called up top prospect A.J. Ewing on Tuesday to play center field on an everyday basis with Robert out.
New York is 16-25 on the season and sitting in last place in the National League East.
