Outfielder Juan Soto is in his eighth major-league season after making his debut with the Washington Nationals in 2018.
The 26-year-old superstar is in his first year with the New York Mets after signing a record-breaking 15-year, $765 million contract, the largest in sports history.
Soto has had an incredible career across stints with four teams, collecting five top-10 MVP finishes, four All-Star selections and five Silver Slugger Awards, providing elite plate discipline and power from the left side. Across 1,043 career regular-season games, he has compiled a .281 batting average, .945 OPS, 226 home runs and 654 RBIs.
Soto recently suffered a left foot contusion after fouling a ball off his foot during Tuesday’s game against the San Diego Padres.
Before Wednesday’s series finale, the Mets opted to rest their left-handed slugger and, with a team off day tomorrow, that decision gives Soto close to 72 hours to rest his injured foot.
No surprise, but Juan Soto is out of the Mets' lineup today. With a team off day tomorrow, that gives Soto close to 72 hours to rest his sore foot before Friday's game.

In his first year with New York, Soto has been exactly as advertised. Over 107 games this season, he has a .248 batting average, .871 OPS, 25 home runs and 62 RBIs. Soto heated up in June after a slow start to the year, hitting .322 with a 1.196 OPS and 11 home runs over 27 games.
The Mets will eagerly hope that Soto’s foot recovers well and that he won’t require a stint on the injured list, as the team is currently locked in a tightly contested NL East race for first place with the Philadelphia Phillies.
