After winning the first two games of their series against the St. Louis Cardinals, the New York Mets are aiming to win their third in a row on Sunday to secure the series victory.
Nearly a month into the new season, the Mets are 13-7 and own a 0.5-game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies and sit atop the NL East standings. Additionally, they are tied with the San Francisco Giants for the fourth-best record in the NL.
With the Mets up 2-0 in their series against the Cardinals, things are looking good for the team. However, they made an unfortunate announcement during Saturday's game that will be worth monitoring.
While the Mets have begun the season on a high note, the same cannot be said for all their players. Most notably, infielder Mark Vientos has struggled a lot this season, as he is batting .167 so far. However, the Connecticut native has turned things around recently and is playing some solid baseball, batting .269 in his last seven games with two home runs and five RBI.
In the first two games in the Mets' series against the Cardinals, Vientos went 3-for-8 with two home runs and 2 RBI. While he was looking to build on his momentum, the team announced that Vientos left Saturday's game early due to groin discomfort.
"Mark Vientos exited today's game with groin discomfort, the Mets say," SNY Mets said on X.

Last season, Vientos enjoyed a breakout campaign, batting .266 with 27 home runs, 71 RBI, and a .837 OPS. Hopefully for him and the Mets, his injury is not too severe. But they will be without him for the remainder of this contest against St. Louis.
