New York Mets superstar outfielder Juan Soto is usually stoic while rounding the bases after hitting a home run (not always….but usually).
That’s why it caught some fans by surprise on Sunday night when he pointed to his ring finger, a la Joe Burrow at LSU in early 2020, after a go-ahead home run in a 5-3 win against the San Francisco Giants.

Was Soto insinuating that the Mets are on their way to winning a ring this season? Was it a subtle shot at someone on the Giants’ roster?
The answer is none of the above.
Soto explained during a post-game interview with ESPN that the ring gesture was a shoutout to Mets first base coach Antoan Richardson, who just got engaged.
“That’s a thing with my guy Antoan Richardson,” said Soto. “He just got engaged, so I told him I was going to hit a homer and do the finger [celebration].”
Soto certainly delivered — though not quite in the way he was trying to.
After the game, Soto told reporters that he was trying to follow up his teammate Ronny Mauricio’s blast into McCovey Cove with a splash hit of his own. Unfortunately for Soto, he hit an opposite field home run.
"He wanted to hit one in the water, he told me since the beginning"

Richardson, by the way, isn’t just New York’s first base coach — he also helps outfielders with their defense (which means he works closely with Soto).
