The New York Mets’ pitching staff is taking another hit.
According to Will Sammon of The Athletic , the Mets are placing right-hander Austin Warren on the 15-day injured list. The specific nature of the injury is currently unknown, but Warren was scheduled to undergo testing Wednesday.

Warren, 30, had been a bright spot in the Mets’ bullpen up until his last two outings. The right-hander carried a 2.45 ERA through his first 24 appearances before entering Saturday’s game against the Atlanta Braves. He allowed four runs over two innings that afternoon, and in his next outing three days later, he struggled even more against the Kansas City Royals.
During Tuesday’s 16-12 loss, Warren gave up five earned runs, four hits and a walk without recording an out. He now owns a 4.63 ERA and 1.49 WHIP over 35 innings this season.

It remains to be seen what the corresponding roster move will be. Sammon wrote that recently optioned right-hander Tobias Myers is a possibility to take Warren’s spot, though nothing is official yet. In 24 major league appearances this season, Myers has posted a 6.21 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 6.9 K/9 across 42 innings.
New York is in need of length from its starters. After utilizing six relievers during Monday’s 10-inning victory over Atlanta, the club deployed a bullpen game in its series opener against Kansas City. Of the six arms that took the mound Tuesday, half threw 35 or more pitches. That does not include Warren, who threw 26 pitches and is now sidelined for at least the next 15 days.
If Myers is ultimately recalled, his ability to cover multiple innings in relief should help the Mets limit usage of their overworked bullpen arms. That is especially important because the Mets’ next two scheduled starters, Christian Scott and Sean Manaea, have struggled to consistently pitch beyond five innings.
