Mets Receive Bad News Regarding Sandy Alcantara

The New York Mets are entering the 2025 season with some lofty expectations, as they currently have the third-best odds at winning the World Series (+1000) and the second-best odds to win the NL East (+180), per ESPN BET

That's, of course, after a very busy offseason, which included signing outfielder Juan Soto to a 15-year, $765 million deal, making him the highest-paid player in MLB history.

However, the team could still be looking to make some other big moves, with multiple players on the Mets backing the idea of the team trading for Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara.

That thought may have taken a nose dive, though, because Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported that "This Marlins regime consistently tells interested teams legit ace Sandy Alcantara is not available."

Of course, there's no doubt that an addition like Alcantara would be huge for the Mets, because since making his debut in 2017, he's thrown 910.1 innings, putting together a 3.72 ERA, 1.155 WHIP, and 20.7 WAR.

He also has the proven ability to be one of the best pitchers in MLB after an impressive 2022 season, where he won the Cy Young Award after 33 starts, 228.2 innings pitched, 207 strikeouts and a 2.28 ERA.

Another big plus about Alcantara is that he's under contract through the 2027 season as a part of his five-year, $56 million contract, making him an affordable option for most teams, including the Mets.
