The New York Mets received encouraging news after rookie outfielder Carson Benge exited Friday night's 6-4 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates with left wrist soreness.
Benge left the game after crashing into the outfield wall while making a sliding catch in the third inning. Initial X-rays came back negative for a fracture, providing an early positive update for the Mets as they await further evaluation.
New York Post reporter Mike Puma shared the update on X after the game, reporting that the initial imaging showed no fracture following the collision.

Benge was injured in the bottom of the third inning while making a sliding catch on a fly ball hit by Ronny Simon. He absorbed the impact with his extended left wrist before leaving the game and was replaced by Cristian Pache at the start of the fourth inning.
While the negative X-rays ruled out a fracture, interim manager Andy Green said Benge remains day-to-day. Additional imaging could be required depending on how the swelling and soreness respond over the next few days.
Before exiting, Benge finished 2-for-2 with two RBI singles and a stolen base, continuing an impressive rookie campaign. The outfielder is batting .270 with 13 home runs, 46 RBIs and 18 stolen bases while becoming one of the key contributors to the Mets' young core.
His injury comes as New York continues to manage several health concerns across the roster, with Juan Soto and Mark Vientos both progressing through rehab assignments. The Mets have now won four straight games after Friday's victory, while the Pirates have dropped four consecutive contests.
If Benge avoids a more serious injury, it would preserve one of the Mets' hottest hitters during the club's recent surge. His status will likely become clearer once the team's medical staff completes its follow-up evaluation.
