Mets Release Joe Jacques

The Mets released Joe Jacques, according to the left-hander’s MLB.com profile page.  Jacques had been playing on a minor league contract signed last offseason, though his time with the Mets has now ended without any time on the active roster.

Injuries played a role in Jacques’ continued stay in the minors, as he spent almost two and a half months on the Triple-A injured list.  However, the southpaw wasn’t very effective when he was able to pitch, as Jacques posted a 5.92 ERA over 24 1/3 innings in 24 appearances for Triple-A Syracuse.  Perhaps the only highlight of Jacques’ season was his perfect inning of relief during a combined no-hitter for the Syracuse Mets on August 30.

Control was Jacques’ biggest problem, as he posted an ugly 16.2% walk rate that came close to matching his 18.9% strikeout rate.  The groundball specialist kept up his usual standard with a 55.4% grounder rate, but a pretty average .299 BABIP indicates that Jacques’ struggles weren’t due to much bad luck (apart from a 62.5% strand rate).

Even though the Mets again dealt with a lot of pitching injuries and routinely shuffled relievers up and down from Triple-A, Jacques didn’t do enough to get a call to New York.  Jacques’ MLB resume remains his 29 2/3 innings pitched with the Red Sox and Diamondbacks over the 2023-24 seasons, with 26 2/3 of those frames coming in his 2023 rookie year with Boston.  His first four pro seasons were spent in the Pirates’ farm system, and Jacques pitched in the minors with the Dodgers and Mariners organizations in 2025.
