The New York Mets finalized their MLB coaching staff this week, reportedly hiring Johnny Washington as their new co-hitting coach to round out their staff.
Washington, 42, will work alongside incumbent Troy Snitker. He spent 2026 as the Minor League Hitting Coordinator for the Atlanta Braves, working across all levels of their organization.
Prior to that, he worked for the Los Angeles Angels, Chicago Cubs, San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers, serving as the Angels' lead hitting coach.
Washington will try to help improve a Mets offense that ranked 21st in runs per game and 24th in OPS. New York's underperforming lineup is a big reason why the team finished last in the NL East last season, so time will tell if he can help in that regard.
