Mets Sign Former Astros Hurler
Erik Williams-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Mets have been busy adding depth pieces over the past several days.

On Saturday, the Mets signed former Houston Astros pitcher Andre Scrubb to a minor league deal, per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com.

Scrubb has not appeared in the major leagues since 2021 when he posted a 5.03 ERA in 18 relief appearances (19.2 innings) for the Astros.

However, in the 2020 Covid-shortened campaign, the righty produced a dazzling 1.90 ERA in 20 appearances and 23.2 innings, so there is some upside there.

The 28-year-old spent last season in the Independent League and the Mexican League, posting a 3.62 ERA in 37.1 innings of work.

Scrubb holds a 3.32 ERA in 38 big-league appearances.

Beyond Edwin Diaz, Drew Smith and Brooks Raley, the Mets' bullpen is barren after trading David Robertson and letting go of Adam Ottavino. Scrubb is the latest reliever to be signed by the Mets this week after they inked Austin Adams (major league split deal) and Kyle Crick (minor league deal) over the past two days.

Scrubb, Adams and Crick will be competing for spots in a Mets bullpen that still needs a significant amount of pieces this offseason.

Scrubb was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the eighth-round of the 2016 MLB Draft. He spent three and a half seasons in the Dodgers' organization before getting traded to the Astros in July of 2019 for Tyler White.
