Even with the MLB Draft over, another WVU Baseball player is receiving an opportunity with an MLB franchise.

The New York Mets signed Hayden Cooper as an undrafted free agent on Wednesday morning.

Cooper made 17 appearances and eight starts during his lone WVU season in 2024. He went 1-4 with a 6.40 ERA and struck out 32 batters in 52.0 innings pitched.

Cooper now joins draftees JJ Wetherholt (No. 7, Cardinals), David Hagaman (No. 133, Rangers), Aidan Major (No. 146, Guardians), Derek Clark (No. 262, Angels), and Tyler Switalski (Giants, No. 478) as former Mountaineers with MLB contracts.

According to WVU Athletics, Cooper is the first Mountaineer to start his professional career with the Mets since Grant Psomas was drafted in the 15th round by New York in 2004.
