The Miami Marlins have selected Florida State Seminoles outfielder Max Williams in the 2025 MLB Draft. The left-handed star has spent the past two seasons with the Seminoles after starting his college career with the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Max Williams is a native of Ormond Beach, Florida where he went to Clay High School. At the time, he was rated by Perfect Game as the 83rd-ranked player overall and the 21st-ranked outfielder nationally.

In 2025, Williams would play in 57 games for Florida State. In that time, he would hit for a .321 batting average with a .387 OBP and a .604 slugging percentage for a .991 OPS. That was on the back of 19 home runs and nine doubles with a total of 53 RBIs for the season. On the defensive side of the ball, he had a .991 fielding percentage and only one error on the season.

For his college career on the whole, going back to his freshman season at Alabama, Williams played in 139 total games and hit for a .314 batting average with a .388 OBP and a .583 slugging percentage for a .970 OPS. That was with 33 career home runs, 23 doubles, four triples, and 106 career RBIs. On top of that, Williams also played in the Cape Cod League and the Northwoods League.

Ahead of the MLB Draft, MLB.com rated Max Williams as the 81st-ranked prospect. In a write-up on him, MLB.com praised both his strength and his bat speed at the plate.

“A left-handed-hitting and throwing outfielder,” MLB.com wrote. “Williams has shown the ability to do damage at the plate. He has a combination of strength and bat speed that points to plenty of future power as he moves to the pro game. He does it with an unusual spread out setup with little to no stride and when he’s on time, the ball jumps off his bat, with a ton of over-the-fence juice to his pull side. He can be a bit streaky, prone to starting his swing too quickly and being out in front, and he’ll need to cut down on his chase while improving his swing decisions at the next level.”

While in college, Max Williams was recognized as one of the best players in the ACC. That included being named a Second-Team All-ACC selection in 2025. Now that he’s been drafted into professional baseball, he’ll have the opportunity to prove himself at the next level.
