The 2025 draft wasn’t the first time Micah Bucknam has been drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays.

This is Blue Jays Nation’s annual mid-season prospect list, where we’ll take a look at the 50 best prospects in the Toronto Blue Jays organization. I’ll look at the player’s stats, what other publications have to say, as well as my own observations of the players.

Bucknam won’t make his professional debut until some point in 2026, but there’s still a lot to be excited about with the right-handed pitcher. Another 2025 draftee who won’t pitch until next season is Jared Spencer, who ranks as our 30th-best prospect in the Blue Jays’ organization.

Getting to know Micah Bucknam…

Position: Starting pitcher

Throws: Right

Born: August 26, 2003

Acquired: Fourth round, 2025 draft

Previous ranking: Unranked

When Bucknam’s name was called in the fourth round of the 2025 draft, it was the second time the Blue Jays drafted him. All the way back in 2021, they selected the 6’1”, 212 Kiwi in the 16th round, with the righty electing to head to college.

Buckham honoured his commitment to Louisiana State University, but didn’t pitch for the school in 2022. Instead, he pitched for the Trenton Thunder in the MLB Draft League during the summer, where he had a 0.53 ERA in 17 innings pitched.

He made his collegiate debut in 2023, pitching just seven innings while giving up nine earned runs and striking out 14 batters. Bucknam’s 2024 season wasn’t much better, authoring a 7 ERA in nine innings of work, with 10 strikeouts. Before the 2025 season, Bucknam transferred to Dallas Baptist University, not just finding playing time, but also success.

In 13 starts, Bucknam finished with a 4.62 ERA and 3.67 FIP, posting a 29.4 K% and a 9.2 BB%. In turn, the Blue Jays selected him with their fourth-round pick, signing him to a bonus worth the slot value.

In MLB Pipeline’s mid-season update, Bucknam ranks as their 17th-best Blue Jays prospect. The 22-year-old’s fastball sits in the mid-90s, but reaches as high as 96 mph. His best pitch is an upper-80s slider with good spin. Bucknam also features a curveball and a changeup. There’s starter potential with Bucknam, but his Pipeline scouting report notes he’ll need to improve his throwing fastball for strikes.
