Miguel Castro to begin rehab assignment in Triple-A
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

On Wednesday, July 3rd, Miguel Castro is expected to make an appearance with the Reno Aces down in Triple-A as he continues his rehab assignment.

Towards the end of June, Castro pitched a couple of games in the Arizona Complex League. He tossed three innings, struck out five batters, and allowed zero runs in those games.

Castro was initially placed on the 15-day IL on April 23rd. Dealing with right shoulder soreness, Castro allowed five earned runs in 8.2 innings of work before his injury.

Last season, Castro led all pitchers in baseball with 75 appearances. He posted a 4.31 ERA in what was his first year with the Diamondbacks.

Torey Lovullo also provided an injury update for Merrill Kelly ahead of the D-backs matchup against the Dodgers. Lovullo noted that Kelly is expected to pitch off a flat mound later this week.

Kelly, just like Castro, has been on the IL since mid-April, with his last start coming on April 15th. He had allowed just six earned runs in 24.2 innings.

According to multiple reports, the Diamondbacks are expecting Kelly to return to their starting rotation sometime in late-August.
