Mike Trout News Surfaces After Absence From Angels’ Lineup

Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout has already played more games this season than he did the last two years, but he's still missed 26 contests already. The 33-year-old is the poster child for elite players with the worst injury luck.

Trout has played 100-plus games in a season just once since 2021, although he's on pace to finally pass that mark this year. However, the 33-year-old hasn't reached 140 games played since 2018, including the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign.

On the bright side, Trout's 19 homers and 47 RBI this year are the most he's had since 2022, when he had 40 homers and 80 RBI in 119 contests. The future Hall of Famer has helped the Angels stay within 4.5 games of an AL Wild Card spot ahead of their bout with the Chicago White Sox on Friday.

However, Trout will miss the game, via The Athletic's Sam Blum.

"Mike Trout is out tonight with an illness," he reported. "A bug is going around the team."

The designated hitter/right fielder played in all 26 of Los Angeles' games in July, slashing .247/.400/.495 with six homers and 16 RBI. Catcher Travis D'Arnaud will take the designated hitter spot on Friday, while backup Gustavo Campero will bat ninth and play right field.

Trout is an 11-time All-Star, three-time AL MVP, three-time All-MLB First Teamer, and a nine-time Silver Slugger. He was also the 2012 AL Rookie of the Year.

The Angels selected Trout No. 25 overall in the 2009 MLB Draft, and he got his big-league call-up in 2011. However, his only playoff season was in 2014.
