Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels will not start in Week 3 against the Las Vegas Raiders after not practicing on Friday. The second-year QB suffered a knee sprain in the loss to the Green Bay Packers in Week 2.
Earlier this week, Commanders head coach Dan Quinn told reporters that Daniels was required to practice to earn the start on Sunday. With Daniels ruled out, Washington will start journeyman QB Marcus Mariota in his place, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Mariota, a first-round pick by the Tennessee Titans in 2015, has been with the Commanders since 2024. He's appeared in 93 games and started 74 contests, going 43-40 as a starter. Mariota has thrown for 16,184 yards, 97 touchdowns and 55 interceptions during his 10-year career.
The loss of Daniels is significant against a Raiders defense led by star pass-rusher Maxx Crosby. The Commanders will sorely miss Daniels' speed and availability to move out of the pocket, especially with Washington's backfield already shorthanded this week. Running back Austin Ekeler was ruled out for the season due to a torn Achilles suffered in the loss to the Packers.
