The Milwaukee Brewers are 7-6 on the season, but have won three series in a row after being swept by the New York Yankees on MLB’s Opening Weekend. The fact that they have won seven of their last ten games is somewhat astounding considering the amount of injuries that they have suffered to their starting pitchers.
Going into the season, Freddy Peralta, Nestor Cortes, and Aaron Civale were the only three starters healthy enough to be on the Opening Day roster. Now, 13 games into the season, only Peralta remains. Cortes suffered an elbow injury after his second start while Civale strained his hamstring in his first.
Unfortunately, having virtually their entire starting rotation injured is not really a new development for the Brewers. Last season, they used 17 different starting pitchers due to the amount of injuries suffered by various starters.
And while a team would prefer not to have injuries, they did provide opportunities for exciting young starters like Tobias Meyers and Robert Gasser. Unfortunately, both of those young hurlers are injured this year, too.
Early in this season, the Brewers have seen stellar starts from Chad Patrick, Tyler Alexander, and the newly acquired Quinn Priester.
And, fortunately, Friday night will mark the season debut of Jose Quintana, who was signed by Milwaukee late in Spring Training.
As previously mentioned, Civale suffered a hamstring strain after his only start of the year, a loss to the Yankees. And while the Brewers were confident it would not be a long-term injury, he has reportedly suffered a setback in his recovery:
Brewers pitching news: Aaron Civale has had a setback in his comeback from a strained hamstring. He’s being evaluated and the timeline is TBD.

As can be seen from Adam McCalvy’s post above, Milwaukee does not have a timeline for his return. They are also still waiting on the returns of Meyers and Brandon Woodruff.
Gasser will not be able to rejoin the rotation until late in the year after having Tommy John surgery last season.
Of course, Aaron Ashby and DL Hall are still rehabbing as well.
While Milwaukee currently has the arms to be competitive, they also have a long way to go until they get everyone healthy, and this Civale setback does not help.
