The Milwaukee Brewers are preparing to take on the Texas Rangers in Game Two of their series in this, the final month of the 2025 Major League Baseball regular season. At 89-56, Milwaukee has the best record in the league and still holds a 7.5-game lead over the Chicago Cubs in the National League Central Division.

Chad Patrick, who is 3-8 with a 3.60 ERA this season, was called up from Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday and will make the start. In his last Major League outing, the day that the Brewers memorialized Bob Uecker, he pitched 5.1 innings while allowing four hits, two walks, and two runs while striking out seven.

Carlos Rodriguez was demoted to make room for Patrick on the roster.

Additionally, Milwaukee activated first baseman Rhys Hoskins from the injury list and sent struggling infielder Anthony Seigler to Nashville.

Prior to injuring his wrist a couple of months ago, Hoskins was the Brewers’ starting first baseman. He has hit .242/.340/.428 with 12 home runs and 42 RBI this season.

But in his absence, Andrew Vaughn, who was acquired from the Chicago White Sox in the Aaron Civale trade, has hit .308/.370/.503 with nine home runs and 41 RBI.

Clearly, Vaughn has earned the right to keep the everyday first base job, and Hoskins’ comments on Tuesday show that he agrees.

“They’re probably going to roll with the guys that have been out there, as they should,” Hoskins said. “My role will be a little bit more limited, at least for what I’m accustomed to. But I told Murph and those guys I’m ready for whatever you have for me.”

Both Hoskins and Vaughn are right-handed hitters, erasing the option of platooning them. Instead, Hoskins will come off the bench late in games as a pinch hitter.

Of note, Vaughn has recently been spotted practicing fielding grounders at third base prior to games as of late. While this could mean nothing, it is worth keeping an further eye on in case Murphy chooses to have both of them in the lineup at some point.
