The Milwaukee Brewers closed out the first half of the 2025 MLB season with an 8-1 victory over the Washington Nationals. They head into the All-Star break with a 56-40 record, the most wins in franchise history ahead of the annual Midsummer Classic. Truly, it is a phenomenal achievement considering that they started the year 0-4.
While the Brewers have been playing winning and consistent baseball over the last two months, it is not forgotten that they struggled mightily in the beginning of the year. On May 27, they were just 21-25, and the season looked like it was in danger of slipping away from them.
However, they overcame the early onset of the injury bug, found the best players from both inside and outside the organization that they could plug in, and have put a winning product on the field.
Indeed, the Brewers still have a great deal of moving parts on their roster. While their everyday starters, pitching rotation, and key relievers are set for now, there is still the chance of injury in the season’s remaining 66 games.
What is more, Milwaukee has a tendency to keep players on a taxi between the minors and Majors, toying with different arms in the bullpen in an effort to give them the best possible results.
After the game on Sunday, the Brewers announced three moves heading into the All-Star Break:

As one can see from the post above, reliever Easton McGee was optioned to Triple-A Nashville. He pitched for the Brewers on Sunday, notching one inning of work with a hit given up and two strikeouts.
McGee has a 3.00 ERA in four games for Milwaukee this season. In 20 games with the Sounds, McGee is 4-0 with a 4.55 ERA.
Blake Perkins, who has yet to make his season debut due to a fractured shin in Spring Training, is restarting his rehab assignment. He had previously begun an assignment earlier this month, but was put back on the injured list when he hurt his groin.
Finally, Drew Avans was designated for assignment. He had previously been picked up by Milwaukee off of waivers from the Athletics. In one game with the Brewers, he went 0-2 with an RBI.
In 22 games with the Nashville Sounds, Avans hit .273/.373/.409 with two home runs, 12 RBI, and 12 stolen bases.
