Milwaukee Brewers designated hitter Christian Yelich had a great start to his season in 2024. While he was the 2018 NL MVP and the MVP runner up in 2019, he had not been voted as a starter for the All-Star Game in either of those seasons. Of course, he was added to the roster after fan voting closed in both of those years, but he was noted voted as a starter for the Midsummer Classic until 2024.
After four seasons of suboptimal production (by his standards) Yelich hit .315/.406/.504 with 11 home runs, 42 RBI, and 21 stolen bases in 73 games last season. Unfortunately, his renaissance year ended early when he had to undergo season-ending back surgery.
Yelich started the 2025 season hitting just .220/.333/.385 with five home runs and 23 RBI (to go with six stolen bases) through March and April. He was slightly better (but not much) in May, hitting .245/.292/.465 with seven home runs, 16 RBI, and four stolen bases.
This start was, in a word, disappointing, given his spectacular play in 2024 and the fact that he hit .353/.389/.735 in spring training.
But the three-time All-Star has picked it up in the Month of May, hitting .327/.393/.509 with two home runs and 13 RBI. In his last 30 games, which have seen the Brewers go 20-10 (the best record in the Majors during that span), Yelich is hitting .311 with seven home runs and 26 RBI.
Indeed, and this should not come as a surprise, Milwaukee’s offense is better when their star hitter is playing well. He finally is, and the Brewers are reaping the benefit.
On Friday night, Yelich improved his 2025 batting line to .252/.330/.441 with a 4-6 performance over the Minnesota Twins. During that 17-6 victory, Milwaukee’s designated hitter drove in eight runs, despite not hitting a home run.
He became the first player since RBI became a stat in 1920 to drive in eight runs without hitting a home run, and the first player ever to drive in that many runs without scoring a run himself.
Lost in his historic performance, and the historic performance of pitcher Jacob Misiorowksi, was the fact that Yelich reached a major career milestone:

As seen in the post above, Yelich’s eight RBI performance gave him 800 for his career. He now has 507 RBI as a member of the Brewers, which ranks 15th in franchise history. He is just one behind Corey Hart for 14th on the last, and could realistically enter the top 10 at some point this season.
Greg Vaughn is currently tenth in franchise history with 566 RBI in a Brewers unform, meaning Yelich needs to knock in 60 more runs this season in order to pass him. This would give him 112 RBI for the year, which would certainly be great for Milwaukee and surpass his 2018 total of 110, the year he won the MVP Award.
And while his may seem like a longshot, it should be noted that Yelich has 52 RBI for the Brewers in 71 games played. If he can stay healthy and keep hitting like he has so far in June, he just might get there.
