The Milwaukee Brewers have one of the best starting pitching rotations in all of baseball. Despite numerous setbacks, injuries, and even a trade (Aaron Civale to the White Sox), Brewers starters have stepped up all season long. Jacob Misiorowski, Quinn Priester, and the recently demoted Chad Patrick (to make room for Brandon Woodruff) have all performed admirably over the course of the season.
But Sunday belong to the veterans, specifically Milwaukee’s two longest-tenured players.
Woodruff, who had not appeared in the Major Leagues since September of 2023 due to a shoulder injury, returned on Sunday to help the Brewers defeat the Miami Marlins 3-1. He threw 70 pitches in six solid innings of work, giving up two hits, one run, no walks, and striking out eight.
And after the game, Freddy Peralta got some great news of his own.
After the game against the Marlins had ended, Major League Baseball announced the pitching staffs for the upcoming All-Star Game.
Peralta has been added to the roster for the second time in his career:

Peralta’s first All-Star selection came back in 2021 when he was 10-5 with a 2.81 ERA. That year, he was joined on the NL All-Star squad by Woodruff, Corbin Burnes, Josh Hader, and Omar Narvaez.
This year, though, it is possible that he will be Milwaukee’s lone representative, that is, unless Sal Frelick and/or Brice Turang (both Gold Glove Award winners last season) are named to the squad later.
In 2025, Peralta leads the National League with nine wins and has a 2.91 ERA and 104 strikeouts in 99.0 innings of work.
Former Brewers prospect Shane Smith, who was taken by the Chicago White Sox in the 2024 Rule 5 Draft, was named to the American League All-Star roster. He is currently 3-6 with a 3.86 ERA in 16 starts this season.
