Sunday was truly a tremendous day for the Milwaukee Brewers two longest-tenured players. Brandon Woodruff, who had not pitched in a Major League game since September of 2023, made his long-awaited return after recovering from a severe shoulder injury. Facing the Miami Marlins in the same ballpark in which he made his last MLB start, Woodruff looked as good as ever, tossing six innings of two-hit ball while allowing one run and striking out eight.

The Brewers won the game 3-1, their 50th win of the season. They are now 50-40 and in second place in NL Central. They also hold sole possession of the NL’s second Wild Card spot with 72 games left to play.

But Sunday was not just a big day for Woodruff. It was also a noteworthy day for Milwaukee’s ace, Freddy Peralta.

On Sunday, Major League Baseball announced the pitchers and reserve position players for the 2025 All-Star Game. Milwaukee is sending just one player to this year’s festivities: Peralta.

So far this season, Peralta is 9-4 with a 2.91 ERA and 104 strikeouts in 99.0 innings pitched. His nine wins on the year lead the National League, and is among the league leaders is games started with 18.

This is the second time in his career that Peralta has been named an All-Star. The first time occurred back in 2021 when he was one of five Brewers players selected: himself, Corbin Burnes, Woodruff, Josh Hader, and Omar Narvaez.

After the game against the Marlins on Sunday, manager Pat Murphy addressed the team to announce Peralta’s selection for the All-Star Game. When he was done giving his speech, the ace himself talked to the team, giving them all the credit for his honor:

“I want to say ‘Thank you” guys because, without you guys, this would not be possible. Thank you for taking care of my back when I’m out there pitching.

“And you know, let’s keep it running. Let’s keep it the same way. Competing every day and just keep winning games.

“But thank you. Without you, this is not possible.”

The 2025 MLB All-Star Game will take place on July 15 in Truist Park, home of the Atlanta Braves.

Former Brewers prospect Shane Smith, who was taken by the Chicago White Sox in the 2024 Rule Five Draft, was named to the American League squad.
