Milwaukee Brewers Make Intriguing Pitching Move Before NLCS

The Milwaukee Brewers recalled left-hander Colton Gordon from Double-A Biloxi on Thursday, adding the 27-year-old to their roster as they prepare to open the National League Championship Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The move appeared on MiLB.com’s official transaction log for Oct. 8. It returned Gordon to the major league club roughly two weeks after Milwaukee optioned him to Biloxi.

Game 1 of the NLCS is set for Sunday. Milwaukee will look to seize an early edge in the best-of-seven series rather than fall behind a deep Dodgers lineup and pitching staff.

Gordon, a 6-foot-4 lefty, has bounced between levels this season. He appeared in five major league games in 2026, split between the Houston Astros and the Brewers. In those outings he went 0-1 with an 8.79 ERA and 12 strikeouts over 14.1 innings. The sample is small, but it underscored the uneven results he has shown at the highest level.

That followed a more substantial 2025 campaign with the Astros. Gordon posted a 6-4 record, a 5.34 ERA and 72 strikeouts across 20 games that year.

His minor league work in 2026 was more extensive. Across 24 Triple-A appearances, mostly starts, he went 7-8 with a 4.11 ERA and 103 strikeouts in 124.2 innings.

The year before, in 11 Triple-A games in 2025, he had gone 4-2 with a 3.38 ERA. Those figures highlight both the promise and the inconsistency that have marked his development.

Milwaukee acquired Gordon from Houston on July 15 along with right-hander Lance McCullers Jr. and cash. The Brewers sent minor league outfielder Jadyn Fielder the other way.

Gordon was recalled from Triple-A Nashville on Sept. 18 for bullpen depth, then optioned to Biloxi on Sept. 23 after working five innings in relief against Philadelphia. The latest promotion places him back in the mix as the postseason intensifies.

The Brewers have not detailed his expected role. With a series that could stretch to seven games, additional left-handed arms can help cover innings or matchup situations if the primary bullpen is taxed.

Gordon’s path to this point includes an eighth-round selection by the Astros in 2021 after college pitching at Central Florida. He reached the majors in 2025 and has now logged 25 big-league appearances with a career 5.83 ERA.

Whether he appears in the NLCS or remains organizational depth, the recall gives Milwaukee another familiar option at a critical moment. The Dodgers present a formidable challenge, and every available arm factors into the planning.

The timing of the move, on the eve of the series, suggests the Brewers want maximum flexibility heading into Sunday’s opener. How Gordon fits into that plan will become clearer once the series begins.
