The Milwaukee Brewers have clinched the best record in all of Major League Baseball. Due to having the best overall record in the National League at 96-65, they have a first-round bye when the postseason starts this upcoming week, and will take on the winner of the Chicago Cubs versus San Diego Padres wild-card series.

The near-week off that Milwaukee will have between the end of the regular season and the NLDS is going to provide some much-needed rest and recovery time for their banged-up roster, specifically their pitching rotation.

Over the course of the past several weeks, several Brewers pitchers have had to miss time due to injury, including two-time All-Star Brandon Woodruff and long-time veteran Jose Quintana. Additionally, All-Star closer Trevor Megill and other key relievers have ended up on the injured list with various ailments.

When the Brewers first decided to call up their top pitching prospect midway through the 2025 season, he took the baseball world by storm. Misiorowski went 4-1 with an impressive 2.81 ERA in his first five starts, and was even named to the NL All-Star team despite being up in the Majors for such a short time (over a dozen other NL pitchers turned down the invitation before it was offered to the Brewers rookie).

After the All-Star break, though, Misiorowski has struggled mightily. In his nine starts since the break, he is just 1-2 with an alarming 5.45 ERA. Before Milwaukee’s current series against the Cincinnati Reds, the team made the decision to bring the rookie out of the bullpen behind Robert Gasser.

That transition, though, did not provide the results that anyone had hoped for.

In 2.1 innings of relief on Saturday night, Misiorowski allowed three hits, two runs (one earned), three walks, and struck out three.

His ERA is up to 4.36 on the season, leaving many wondering if the Brewers should even add him to their postseason roster.

After the game, Murphy did not sugarcoat the fact that the way his young rookie has been pitching lately is not nearly good enough. With postseason roster spots up in the air, especially in the bullpen, Misiorowski had a chance to prove he deserved one.

And it sounds like he blew it.

“You come into that situation, it was just an opportunity for him to establish that he can throw strikes in big situations,” Murphy said. “I think it was a great experience, but he didn’t get it done, and then it snowballed after that. He was behind in the count a lot.”

Misiorowski is still young and has the potential to be a very good pitcher for the Brewers for a long time. However, as the team eyes its first World Series title, its young rookie may have to wait for his turn to contribute in the postseason.
