One of the biggest storylines of the 2025 MLB All-Star Game, especially in recent days, has been the addition of Milwaukee Brewers rookie phenom Jacob Misiorowski to the National League roster. After Chicago Cubs starter Matthew Boyd informed the league that he would not be available to appear in the game, the powers that be asked a dozen other pitchers if they wanted to be a part of the Midsummer Classic.
But all of them declined.
And so, despite the fact that he has only made five Major League starts in his career, Misiorowski was asked if he wanted to go. Obviously, he said “yes.”
As mentioned, Major League Baseball asked many other pitchers if they wanted to go to the All-Star Game before they asked Misiorowski.
However, many players, especially those on the Philadelphia Phillies, were not happy that Misiorowski was asked before some of their own teammates.
“What a joke,” their star shortstop Trea Turner said. “That’s f— terrible. I mean, that’s terrible, dude.”
“That’s just how MLB does it now. Nothing against the Misiorowski kid. But those two [Sánchez and Suárez] are deserving of being on the team in the first place. There’s no doubt,” stated catcher JT Realmuto.
Outfielder Nick Castellanos added, “It’s turning into the Savannah Bananas.”
And while there are some who doubt Misiorowski should have been included, National League manager Dave Roberts of the Los Angeles Dodgers certainly feels like he belongs.
Roberts, of course, got to see what Misiorowski can do up close and personal when the rookie phenom tossed six innings of one-run ball (a solo home run to Shohei Ohtani) while striking out 12 in his last start against the Dodgers.
The outing gave the young Brewers fireballer a 4-1 record and 2.81 ERA through his first five career starts.
When addressing the media ahead of the Home Run Derby on Monday, Robert defended the young rookie’s inclusion in the All-Star Game by saying:
“I think for me, kind of my North Star is the All-Star Game should be the game’s best players. It’s about the fans and what the fans want to see. So for this young kid to be named [an] All-Star, I couldn’t be more excited for him. He’s thrilled to be here.
“I’m going to get him in there, probably the fifth or the sixth inning, something like that, the seventh. And it’s going to be electric.”
So for fans wondering when they will be able to see their new favorite pitcher, tune in around the middle innings.
It certainly will be “electric.”
