The Milwaukee Brewers had six arbitration eligible players that they had to potentially reach a deal with today before exchanging figures. Those players were William Contreras, Trevor Megill, Garrett Mitchell, Brice Turang, Andrew Vaughn, and Angel Zerpa.
Of that group, five ended up agreeing on one year deals, thus avoiding arbitration. Vaughn brought in the highest salary for 2026 at $7.65 million, Megill second at $4.70 million, Turang third at $4.15 million, Zerpa at $1.09 million, and Mitchell at $950,000. That leaves Contreras as the lone player yet to know his salary for the upcoming season.
According to Mark Feinsand, Contreras filed at $9.9 million and the Brewers $8.55 million. This $1.35 million difference is a rather significant gap, but just a year ago both sides exchanged figures after their initial filings were separated by $900,000. Last winter, Contreras filed at $6.5 million and Milwaukee $5.6, and they ultimately met in the middle at $6.0 million, with a $12.0 million 2026 option and $100,000 buyout.
Noteworthy about this number exchange is that Milwaukee filed at the current second time arbitration eligible salary high for a catcher of $8.55 million, currently held by Will Smith. Contreras went higher than that, in hopes of setting a new precedent.
With figures now public, time will tell if the Brewers and Contreras can come to terms on a contract. If they can’t, sometime in late January or early-to-mid February an arbitration hearing will take place, where a court determines the players salary.
