Minnesota Twins Send Third Baseman to Triple-A after Base-Running Blunder

Minnesota Twins shortstop Brooks Lee came off the injured list Sunday and if the Twins wanted him on the Major League roster, someone had to be sent down.

It was no surprise, after what happened Saturday, Minnesota chose third baseman Jose Miranda to head to Triple-A in order to make room for Lee.

Miranda has spent plenty of time on the shuttle between the Twins and their Triple-A affiliate over the last few years. But his 2025 season has been his worst in the Majors so far. Miranda was just 6 for 36 with no walks and 12 strikeouts this season. And after Saturday's major miscue, the choice was rather easy.

The Twins trailed the Detroit Tigers, 4-0, in the eighth inning with Miranda on first base. Christian Vaquez grounded to Tigers first baseman Spencer Torkelson, who threw to second base in attempt to start a double play. Detroit second baseman Colt Keith was not near the bag when he caught the ball as Miranda slid in and umpire Malachi Moore called Miranda safe. The Twins infielder didn't see the call or Keith's foot and simply brought himself to his feet and began to trot back to the dugout. Keith tagged him for the out.

Twins manager Rocco Baldelli was plenty frustrated after the game.

"Jose has to do better on that play," Baldelli said. "The guy on the other side of the field was not on the bag, and Jose didn’t make it to the bag on the slide either way. And the umpire was clearly signaling safe. We have to be paying attention, to say the least. We have to be paying attention there and never allow something like that to happen."

The Twins are in last place in the American League Central with a 4-11 record. The only other team with 11 losses is the Colorado Rockies.
