The first week of August across Minor League Baseball will see new faces in new places. Seattle promoted two of their best prospects, Colt Emerson and Jurrangelo Cijntje, to Double-A, as the two performed very well in High-A. Additionally, other notable names have received promotions as we begin the final full month of the 2025 MiLB campaign.
On August 4, the Mariners promoted two of their big prospects to Double-A: Colt Emerson and Jurrangelo Cijntje.
Injuries limited Emerson, the Mariners’ first-rounder back in 2023, to 70 games last season, split between Modesto (A) and Everett (A+). This season, he’s been healthy and hitting, as Emerson slashed .281/.388/.453 (.841 OPS) with 11 home runs and 32 extra-base hits for the AquaSox.
Emerson walked a lot, as he sported a 13.1% BB% in High-A. He also didn’t strike out much, either, at 16.5%. The 20-year-old also showed pop along the way.
Cijntje, meanwhile, was the Mariners’ first-rounder last year. The former Mississippi State product gained notoriety for his ability to pitch with both arms, and with Everett, he performed relatively well.
The 22-year-old struck out 83 times over 74 frames. However, command was not a strong suit; Cijntje surrendered 14 home runs and walked 35 in A-ball.
Milwaukee promoted two of its best prospects in the system, Luis Pena and Jesus Made, to High-A Wisconsin. Both were signed as international amateur prospects in January 2024, and both are only 18 years of age.
Pena moved straight from the DSL to full-season ball this year. And, he didn’t miss a beat, as Pena hit .301/.374/.470 (.844 OPS) against older players, relative to his age. He only struck out 41 times in 71 games in Carolina (A).
Made, meanwhile, is arguably the Brewers’ best prospect. The 18-year-old is a sizeable player at 6’1”. He didn’t hit for a ton of power down in Carolina but performed well overall, as Made slashed .267/.373/.388 (.761 OPS) over 83 games.
The infield prospect walked 53 times with Carolina and stole 40 bases.
The Yankees promoted their first-round pick from 2024, Ben Hess, to Double-A Somerset. Hess missed a month of the season back in the spring but was nearly unhittable in High-A. The right-hander struck out 94 over 66.2 IP for the Renegades, while South Atlantic League hitters batted just .179 (two HR allowed) off him.
Additionally, the Orioles promoted Austin Overn, their third-round pick from 2024, to Double-A. Overn had a strong last week with the Ironbirds, which we covered yesterday.
