Los Angeles Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani unanimously won the 2024 National League Most Valuable Player Award and continues to impress his teammates and Major League Baseball fans.
However, one MLB analyst is not impressed with Ohtani's hitting start to the 2025 season.
Last Thursday, sports journalist Rob Parker joined Brian Kenny on MLB Network's "MLB Now" to discuss the hottest topics in baseball. Kenny was blown away by what Parker had to say about Ohtani.

"He's [Ohtani] supposed to be on a plateau with Aaron Judge [with] these two MVP-type seasons," said Parker. "I can sit here honestly and say I expect even more for Aaron Judge as he continues. Ohtani is just not gonna match last year's season, and I can't see him, as we go forward, have a better year than that."
In 2024, Ohtani became the first player in MLB history to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases in a season, and he led the National League with a .390 on-base percentage, .646 slugging percentage, 1.036 OPS, and a 189 OPS+.
One of Parker's main points during his time on the show was that Ohtani has just 15 RBIs in the first 39 games of the season.
"Fifteen RBIs? We are in May!" said Parker. "I mean, I've seen this guy strikeout a number of times, that means you're not knocking in anybody when it's not a home run. That's not the Shohei Ohtani I saw a year ago."
Parker forgot, and Kenny brought this to his attention: Ohtani's teammates must be on base to record runs batted in. After the weekend, Ohtani now has 21 RBIs.
Despite Parker's claims that Ohtani is not the same caliber player as last season, the three-time MVP's 196 OPS+ would be the highest of his career, and his 44 runs scored are an MLB high.
