Aaron Boone is bringing a familiar face back to the dugout for the Midsummer Classic.
The New York Yankees manager has invited Hall of Famer Joe Torre to serve as an honorary coach for the American League at the 2025 MLB All-Star Game in Atlanta.
Boone, who will manage the AL squad after leading the Yankees to the 2024 World Series, made the announcement Tuesday as part of MLB’s official release.
Torre, now 83, currently serves as Special Assistant to the Commissioner, but his legacy remains firmly rooted in pinstripes.
He managed the Yankees from 1996 to 2007, winning four World Series titles, six American League pennants and making the playoffs in all 12 seasons. His calm, commanding presence turned a clubhouse full of stars into one of the most dominant dynasties in baseball history.
Boone played under Torre during his short but unforgettable stint in the Bronx in 2003. He's tapped the former Yankees manager as a sounding board in the past.
Torre ranks fifth all-time with 2,326 managerial wins and has managed more All-Star Games (6) than any AL skipper not named Casey Stengel, Walter Alston or Joe McCarthy. He also managed the Mets, Braves, Cardinals and Dodgers during a 29-year career and later served as MLB’s Chief Baseball Officer.
For Yankees fans, seeing Torre back in uniform will be a reminder of the Dynasty days. He'll be next to Boone, who is trying to get to that kind of success. It's an interesting dynamic. One built the dynasty. The other is chasing one. Now they’ll share a dugout again, if only for one night.
Atlanta may be the host city, and certainly Torre has a connection there, but in that AL dugout at Truist Park, it’s going to feel a lot like the Bronx.
