Another high-profile 2027 prospect has made the jump to the 2026 ranks, as Tennessee backstop Will Brick announced his reclassification on Wednesday. Baseball America’s Ben Badler was the first to report the news.
A Memphis native, Brick attends Christian Brothers Academy and was widely regarded as the top catching prospect in the 2027 ranks. As a result of his jump into the 2026 class, Brick will maintain that distinction, bolstering a volatile demographic that lacked high-end talent. He is just the latest of several reclassifications this year, including the likes of Logan Schmidt, Isaiah Galason, Rocco Maniscalco, and more.
This move comes after a solid summer campaign, which included a gold medal for USA Baseball in the 18U World Cup in Japan. He was one of two underclassmen on the final roster. Brick was named to the All-Tournament Team, slashing .333/.474/.667 and recording four extra base hits.
Scouts have not minced words when talking about Brick, who some claim is the best prep catching prospect since Blake Mitchell in 2023.
It all starts with the glove behind the plate, as he’s a stout defender with excellent catch-and-throw capabilities, lateral mobility, and solid receiving. He’s explosive out of the crouch and is not afraid to show off the howitzer of an arm, displaying quality accuracy to second base with ease. He’s big and strong, though surprisingly athletic given his frame.
Finally got time to edit these together, but this gives you an idea of the arm strength and explosiveness behind the plate from Brick. Video is from Phase 1 of USA 18U Trials in July.

These were in three consecutive innings, too. Very, very talented. https://t.co/y6v8YxACS4 pic.twitter.com/2eM1wdNf2n
On the offensive front, Brick’s raw power and quiet approach stand out. He’s elected to prioritize the hit tool over the power in-game thus far, but many believe that’ll change in due time.
He lets the ball travel and will utilize both sides of the park, but he’s shown the capability to turn and burn to his pull side. It’s loud bat speed with quick hands and a lofted path, which has led to consistent contact in the air. In batting practices, he’s already flashed exit velocities sneaking up on 110 mph. It’s an exciting toolset to dream on for scouts.
With swirling rumors that there will be significant draft implications in upcoming CBA talks, especially with a looming lockout, this move helps Brick get a chance to be paid.
Many believe he’s a first-round caliber talent, plus he’s revered for his makeup and leadership skills. As of now, he will slot into the top 10 of the upcoming Just Baseball Top 50 Prep list, becoming the top catcher in class and the second-best uncommitted talent available.
