MLB insider gets blunt on Orioles’ Gunnar Henderson contract extension

Baltimore Orioles star Gunnar Henderson won’t be a free agent for three more years, but they are trying to lock him up on a long-term extension.

However, the chances continue to look dim for Baltimore, and MLB insider Ken Rosenthal said the chances of an extension getting done are “extremely low.”

“I would say that the odds of the Orioles signing Gunnar Henderson long-term are extremely low,” Rosenthal said.

As Rosenthal mentions, Henderson’s agent is Scott Boras, who is well-known for guiding his clients to hit the open market instead of signing long-term deals.

On the other hand, the Milwaukee Brewers just signed prized prospect Cooper Pratt to a new deal, and he is also a Boras client, although Pratt has yet to make his MLB debut.

Henderson recently said he is “open ears” to a new contract whenever the Orioles are ready to have those discussions.

Henderson turns 25 years old in June, and he won the American League Rookie of the Year award and a Silver Slugger award in 2023, as well as making the AL All-Star team in 2024.

Henderson was part of Team USA in the World Baseball Classic, so the young Orioles star should be in for a big payday whenever he does get a new deal.
