MLB Insider Reveals Intriguing Angels Trade Rumor
Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Angels may be a team worth keeping an eye on this offseason.

After another lost season, there are a lot of question marks surrounding the team and whether or not 2023 will be Shohei Ohtani‘s last season in an Angels uniform.

While general manager Perry Minasian has said that he does not plan on trading Ohtani, there is another name that is generating some interest from other teams.

According to Jon Morosi of MLB Network, infielder Luis Rengifo is generating a lot of trade interest from multiple teams, though Morosi did not specify who.

However, the plan appears to be to keep Rengifo around so that the Angels can take another shot at contending in Ohtani’s last year under contract.

Several Teams Targeting Rengifo

Rengifo hit .264 with 17 home runs and 52 RBI in 2022.

While it appears that the Angels will try to hold onto him, Rengifo would be a valuable piece for any contending ballclub looking to add a middle or utility infielder.

Perhaps a team like the Boston Red Sox could take a flyer on him.

With Xander Bogaerts hitting free agency, Trevor Story is currently penciled in as the starting shortstop, leaving an opening at second base, which could be filled by Rengifo if they so desire.

The 25-year-old switch hitter could also potentially fit with a team like the defending National League champion Philadelphia Phillies, who recently declined Jean Segura‘s club option.

For now, it appears that the Angels are planning to hold onto him, but if the Angels find themselves out of contention by the trade deadline, there could be teams who come calling for his services.
