MLB Insider Reveals Red Sox Stance on Jarren Duran Trade Talks

The Boston Red Sox might be the most interesting team to watch, approaching the MLB trade deadline. With multiple stars on the injured list, Boston has every reason to buy, but with a 29-34 record, they also have every reason to sell. As the Red Sox trudge on, the team is zeroing in on a decision about outfielder Jarren Duran’s future.

On Monday, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reported that the San Diego Padres have expressed interest in trading for the former All-Star. Sean McAdam of MassLive.com adds to the report, stating that Padres’ GM AJ Preller has recently called the Red Sox to inquire about Duran’s availability as talks have intensified with top prospect Roman Anthony’s expected promotion.

Yet, McAdam claims the Red Sox and the Padres may not be the perfect trade partners due to Boston’s need for starting pitching and San Diego’s lack thereof. Even Padres top prospects Ethan Salas and Leo De Vries likely would not be enough for chief baseball officer Craig Breslow to part ways with Duran, knowing how far both players are away from contributing at the Major League level.

While Boston holds out for a better deal, McAdam revealed the Padres are not the only team to have called the Red Sox about Duran. Although he did not go into specifics, he did say that Duran is “far from untradeable.”

McAdam further explains that Boston is willing to listen to trade offers for Duran. However, they are not shopping him.

Duran will turn 29 in September and will not be eligible for free agency until after the 2028 season. Despite Boston making no effort to discuss a contract extension with him, it will take a haul of top-level prospects to part ways with the team’s best outfielder.
