MLB Legend Dead At 90 Years Old On Thursday Morning

The baseball world lost a legendary baseball figure this morning as the great Bob Uecker passed away. He was 90 years old.

The man once nicknamed "Mr. Baseball" by the late-great Johnny Carson won a World Series with the St. Louis Cardinals while playing catcher for them in 1964. In a six-year career Uecker batted .200 and had 14 home runs with 74 runs batted in.

But Uecker is far more memorable for the 53 years he spent as a broadcaster for the Milwaukee Brewers, serving in the role from 1971 until this past season.

"We are heartbroken to announce that Brewers icon & Baseball Hall of Famer Bob Uecker passed away today at the age of 90," the Brewers said in a statement.

The team further honored Uecker by changing their X profile images, with a black "UECK" logo and a photo of him with the team in the landscape.

Uecker is not only a legend within the Brewers organization, but the entire state of Wisconsin. He was named the Wisconsin Sportscaster of the Year five times and the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association voted him into their Hall of Fame in 2011.

The Brewers inducted Uecker into their Walk of Fame and Wall of Honor, and even gave him a statue outside of their ballpark alongside the likes of Hank Aaron, Robin Yount and Bud Selig.

In 2021, the governor of Wisconsin honored Uecker by naming September 25 "Bob Uecker Day."

Other honors for Uecker include the National Radio Hall of Fame and the Ford C. Frick Award from the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.

Uecker wasn't limited to just baseball though. He tried his hand at being a wrestling announcer in the 1980s, serving as a ring announcer at WrestleMania III and WrestleMania IV.

In one of the most iconic moments in pro wrestling history, Uecker was choked by the legendary Andre the Giant during a promo after insulting him.

For his contributions to pro wrestling, Uecker was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2010.

Our hearts go out to Uecker's family and loved ones.
