The Los Angeles Dodgers enter the 2026 MLB season with an upgraded core after adding two premier free agents, outfielder Kyle Tucker and closer Edwin Diaz.
With these new contributors combined with the expectation of improved offensive production from shortstop Mookie Betts, the possibility of a third consecutive World Series title feels within reach.
Betts is looking to rebound from a dip in offensive numbers last season, which he hopes was merely an outlier.
The 33-year-old veteran remained productive, posting a .258 batting average, .326 on-base percentage, .732 OPS, 20 home runs and 82 RBIs across 150 games. Still, those figures fell short of the elite standard he has maintained throughout much of his 12-year career.
Defensively, Betts excelled in his transition to shortstop. His improvement in the field earned him recognition and Gold Glove nominations, underscoring his versatility and continued value to the Dodgers’ championship pursuit.
As Betts prepares for spring training just weeks away, his efforts were once again recognized on MLB Network’s Top 100 Players Right Now list, which highlights the league’s top talent.
Betts placed No. 18 this year, with evaluators likely viewing his 2025 dip in production as more of an outlier than a trend.
The ranking represents a slight drop from the previous year, when he was slotted fifth overall, but Betts remains firmly in the conversation among the game’s elite. With his track record and versatility, he has every opportunity to climb back into the top 10.

Betts’ career achievements speak for themselves. He is a former MVP, an eight-time All-Star, a four-time World Series champion which leads all active players, a six-time Gold Glove winner and seven-time Silver Slugger recipient.
He has consistently ranked among the most complete players in baseball, and his ability to impact the game both offensively and defensively has defined his legacy.
His transition to shortstop strengthened the Dodgers’ infield and gave the team valuable flexibility in balancing its lineup. His leadership and championship experience provide stability for a roster that blends veteran superstars with emerging talent, a dynamic that has fueled their pursuit of sustained dominance.
If Betts returns to his elite offensive form, the Dodgers’ chances of securing a third straight championship grow even stronger. His ability to rebound at the plate could be the difference between another deep run and history being made.
