MLB Makes Red Sox Uniform Announcement on Friday

The Boston Red Sox will debut new City Connect uniforms in 2025. They are one of eight teams featured, according to an MLB post on X:

Rob Bradford of WEEI added that the uniforms “will be green.”

The Red Sox now have two city connects, the greens and the bright yellows with blue writing, which are meant to pay homage to the Boston Marathon.

They are also expected to part with their alternate road blues this summer due to league restrictions on the number of uniforms a team can wear during the season.

The green jerseys could go in a variety of directions. Will they have something to do with the Green Monster? Is it more of a play on the city’s strong Irish ties and a possible Celtics-like look?

And what about the secondary colors? Red stripes or pants could be a nightmare for color-blind viewers and it remains to be seen if the team will opt for another bold combination. Perhaps something simple like gray pants with green accents would be best.

There are now only two MLB franchises (the New York Yankees and the Athletics) without city connects.

These jerseys have been a talking point amongst fans since their 2021 inception. Typically, old-schoolers find themselves scoffing at the audacity to wear non-traditional colors with sometimes funky designs.

They generally appeal to a younger crowd who love the creativity and diversity of the uniforms. The league has struggled to optimize its marketability at times, and these are a fun change-up.

Regardless of what you think, the new jerseys are sure to bring excitement whenever they are first donned. Plus, who doesn’t love new gear?
