What a night for 36-year-old left-hander Chris Sale. The 6-foot-6 veteran put on a clinic as the Braves beat the Mets for the second straight night. Atlanta scored five runs and shut out visiting New York.
Sale was the star of the evening, recording 26 outs (8β innings), coming just one shy of a complete-game shutout. After a two-out single from Brandon Nimmo in the ninth, Raisel Iglesias came in to close it out.
Sale's final line: 8.2 innings pitched, five hits allowed, no runs and seven strikeouts. He improved to 5-4 on the season.
After the game, MLB highlighted his performance with a strong statement:

Atlanta started fast, scoring three runs in the first inning. Ronald Acuna Jr. led off with his eighth home run of the season, giving the Braves all the offense they would need. They added two more in the first, one in the fourth, and another in the seventh when Matt Olson went deep to make it 5-0.
Starling Marte was the only Mets player to collect two hits in the loss. New York has now dropped five straight.
Sale has made 15 starts this season and owns a 2.52 ERA. Over 89.1 innings, he has racked up 114 strikeouts while issuing only 26 walks.
In his last five starts, Sale has thrown 34.2 innings, allowing just 19 hits and three earned runs. Heβs struck out 42 batters while walking 11 during that stretch.
The Braves and Mets wrap up their three-game series on Thursday.
