Major League Baseball officially approved Reds owner Bob Castellini's successor on Thursday.

Phil Castellini was approved by Major League Baseball to succeed his father according to the Associated Press.

“That was part of MLB protocols associated with the organizational changes the Reds announced in July of 2024 naming Phil president and CEO, and Doug Healy as COO and CFO," the Reds told Charlie Goldsmith in a statement.

The Reds officially announced those changes on July 31, 2024 and they went into effect on August 1, 2024.

“These changes in our organization recognize the excellent work being done by Phil and Doug in leading our business,” Bob Castellini said in a statement after the announcement. “They are in lockstep with Nick’s vision for the Reds baseball model to produce sustainable winning and are committed to advancing all aspects of our operations towards that goal .”

Thursday's announcement puts Phil in position to succeed his father as controlling owner.
