MLB Rumors: Analyst Sees Red Sox Parting Ways With Injured Pitcher

The Red Sox thought they were building around one of baseball’s most dominant arms. Now, they might be staring at an uncomfortable reality at the trade deadline instead. Garrett Crochet’s injury has completely shifted the conversation in Boston, especially with the club buried near the bottom of the AL East heading into the middle of May.

That concern always lingered in the background with Crochet. The talent was never the issue. However, the workload was. Before becoming a full-time starter, the left-hander had never thrown more than 54.1 innings in a season. Then came a massive jump to 205.1 innings in 2025. 

Now the injury is forcing Boston to think bigger picture. Per a report from FanSided’s Chris Landers, Garrett Crochet’s uncertain timeline could push the Red Sox toward selling at the trade deadline instead of buying. With the team underperforming and run prevention taking a major hit without its ace, rival execs are beginning to watch Boston closely.

“Right now, though, Garrett Crochet’s future is very much up in the air, at least in the near term, and that only increases the odds that the Red Sox are selling by the trade deadline,” Landers wrote.
