MLB Rumors: Sandy Alcantara Gets Early Prediction With NL Central Team

Sandy Alcantara made a strong start to the season for the Miami Marlins after a tough 2025 campaign. The 30-year-old was a strong trade candidate last season, but a move did not materialize due to his patchy form. However, the Marlins are likely to receive many more offers for Alcantara before the trade deadline this summer.

Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report identified the Chicago Cubs as the most likely landing spot for Sandy Alcantara if the Miami Marlins trade him at the deadline. He feels the Marlins ace will be invaluable for the Cubs, short on starting pitching. The San Diego Padres and the Toronto Blue Jays are also strong candidates to acquire Alcantara.

“That said, the Padres and Chicago Cubs are succeeding in spite of threadbare rotations so far. And even though they’ve fallen behind in the AL East, the Blue Jays can rightfully see a big rotation addition as their potential salvation,” Rymer wrote.

Alcantara is in the final year of a six-year, $56 million contract extension he signed with the Marlins in 2021. He has a $21 million club option on the deal, but Miami will probably take the $2 million buyout.

Marlins Certain To Trade Sandy Alcantara

According to Zacary D. Rymer, the Miami Marlins will finish at the bottom of their division yet again this year. So, Miami will move Sandy Alcantara out before his contract runs out at the end of the season, when he becomes surplus to requirements.

“The Marlins aren’t that bad, but their 22-28 record is about what anyone could have expected at this point in the season. And with the Mets making their move, a last-place finish in the NL East might be Miami’s most likely outcome,” Rymer wrote.

Alcantara has a 4.00 ERA while leading the MLB with 69.2 innings and 292 batters faced. However, he is going through a rough patch this month after allowing 15 earned runs in his last four starts.
