MLB Sends Messsage on Max Scherzer, Clayton Kershaw Before World Series

With the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Toronto Blue Jays both making it to the 2025 edition of the Fall Classic, baseball fans will get to see two of the greatest pitchers to ever do it in the same series for the final time.

Dodgers star Clayton Kershaw has already announced that he will be retiring at the end of the 2025 MLB season, so regardless of Scherzer's decision on his future in the majors, this is very much likely the last time they will be involved in the same games and in the same series.

The 2025 World Series will begin this Friday night at Rogers Centre in Canada, but before that, MLB showed the 37-year-old Kershaw and the 41-year-old Scherzer some love with a classy social media post on X.

"From an impromptu matchup in 2008 to the #WorldSeries in 2025 Max Scherzer and Clayton Kershaw have some incredible history together!" the post read. It also came with photos of both pitchers tipping their caps.

Baseball fans should know what the post is referring to with that "impromptu matchup" nearly two decades ago. Back on Sept. 7, 2008 at Dodger Stadium, Kershaw got the nod to start for LA after Greg Maddux was scratched.

Scherzer, on the other hand, was named the starter for the Arizona Diamondbacks after Randy Johnson was also scratched. Years later, it became apparent that Kershaw and Scherzer would become baseball legends themselves -- just like Maddux and Johnson, who now have their plaques in Cooperstown.

Interestingly enough, Scherzer’s and Kershaw’s respective journeys in baseball brought them together on the same team, albeit briefly. Scherzer was traded by the Washington Nationals to the Dodgers in 2021, making him part of LA’s rotation with Kershaw.

He would later join the New York Mets in the offseason before a trade sent him to the Texas Rangers, with whom he won his second World Series title in 2023. He joined the Blue Jays in January after inking a one-year deal to take his talents north of the border.

Kershaw, meanwhile, has been a Dodger through and through during his time in the big leagues, and he wants nothing more than to punctuate his incredible career with another World Series championship.
