Baseball fans beware! Even with the World Baseball Classic finalized, there’s still plenty to look forward to before Opening Day. All 30 teams will be participating in MLB’s Spring Breakout one week prior to Opening Day.
This year marks the third rendition of Spring Breakout. Each team puts together a roster of some of its best minor league prospects, and each team plays at least one game. Four of the top five prospects in baseball will be participating, including Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop and top overall prospect Konnor Griffin. In total, there will be 16 games across both Arizona and Florida.
The Best Matchups for 2026 MLB Spring Breakout
This year’s Spring Breakout will have some of the best matchups to date. The number two-ranked Spring Breakout roster, the Los Angeles Dodgers, will play the 6th-ranked Chicago White Sox. Los Angeles’ roster is headlined by five top 100 prospects, including four outfielders. The Dodgers’ roster also bolsters 20 of their top 30 prospects. South Sider fans should be excited, as their team also has five top 100 prospects. This includes four outfield prospects, including
Zyhir Hope.
Josue De Paula and
Eduardo Quintero. The White Sox bring 12 of their top 15 prospects, including last year’s 10th overall pick.
Another intriguing matchup is the Pirates and the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers have two top 100 prospects, including
Max Clark.
Kevin McGonigle will remain at big league camp fighting for a roster spot. For the Pirates, three of the last four first-round picks will play. On the mound, fans can expect to see
Seth Hernandez, a recent
top draft prospect.
The Milwaukee Brewers and the Athletics should be another exciting match to look forward to. Five top 100 prospects that all play shortstop could appear in the matchup. Saturday’s game will be headlined by potential future number one overall prospect
Jesus Made, who is currently ranked third in all of baseball. Additionally, for the Brewers,
Luis Pena,
Cooper Pratt, and
Jett Williams are more top-100 middle infielders who could make an appearance. On the Athletics side of things,
Leo De Vries, who was
acquired at the deadline from the San Diego Padres, will be the top prospect for them.
