The Detroit Tigers faced the Atlanta Braves today in Grapefruit League play.

Tigers vs. Braves

Scoring

The Braves erupted in the first inning as Ozzie Albies doubled home Matt Olson and Austin Riley. Albies would then score on a double from Mike Yastrzemski to make it 3-0. The Tigers got a run back in the top of the fifth as Jace Jung singled home Max Clark. In the bottom half of the inning, the Braves tacked on two more as Matt Olson hit a two-run home run to make it 5-1. The Braves added more in the sixth with Jonah Heim driving home Brett Wisely on a sacrifice fly. Luke Williams also drove home DaShawn Keirsey Jr. on a sacrifice fly to make it 7-1. In the bottom of the seventh, Jim Jarvis singled home John Gil.

Pitching

Detroit 

Enmanuel De Jesus lasted only 0.2 innings, giving up three runs on two hits and a walk; all three runs were unearned. Pedro Garcia came in for Detroit, and he allowed a walk and a hit but got the final out on a strikeout. Matt Seelinger went 1.1 innings, giving up two runs on two hits, and he struck out two. Drew Sommers then came in, going one inning, but he allowed two runs on a walk and a strikeout. Ricky Vanasco went one inning for the Tigers, giving up a run on two hits and two walks. Cole Waites got the eighth, and he got the Braves to go down 1-2-3 with a strikeout.

Atlanta

Reynaldo Lopez went two shutout innings, allowing a walk and a hit. Grant Holmes was next for Atlanta, going two shutout innings; he walked one and struck out two. Former Tiger Joey Wentz went two innings for the Braves, giving up a run on two hits; he walked two and struck out three. Owen Murphy went the last three innings and got the save as he didn’t allow a run and gave up one hit; he didn’t issue a walk and struck out four.

Next Up:

The Tigers have a split-squad game tomorrow as they face the Phillies, while the rest of the roster will face the Blue Jays; both games are 1:05 PM EST. The Braves will face the Pirates tomorrow with that game at 1:05 PM EST.
