As if fans haven’t heard already, the Milwaukee Brewers enter the 2025 MLB playoffs seeking their first playoff series win since 2018, when they took the Dodgers to seven games in the NLCS. Last season’s division crown was soured by a 2-1 Wild Card Round loss to the Mets. In 2025, a third straight NL Central title in tow, with a franchise-high, MLB-best 97 wins, a much-changed Brewers team will look to end this year on a sweeter note.

MLB The Show, however, does not see that happening – not in any sense whatsoever. Its playoff projections beg the question of what this team has to do to earn the respect of the popular baseball world at large.

Brewers have one way to respond to slight – by winning

To their credit, projectors at The Show nailed the NL playoff results in ’24, which of course includes Milwaukee’s first-round loss to New York. This time around the Brewers earned a bye to the NLDS, where they will face the winner of Cubs-Padres in the four-seed vs five-seed matchup. Tuesday afternoon in Chicago, the home team took game one by a 3-1 score.

In that regard The Show is off on the wrong foot already, having projected a 2-0 San Diego sweep. In the NLDS, they have the Padres taking care of the Brewers 3-1. Needless to say, that would be a deflating end to a magical Milwaukee season. At least win a round before turning the page on this one.

The Show’s full board of projected outcomes:

Is the Brewers’ predicted downfall a touch disrespectful to the top seed in baseball? Probably. It’s also not absurd given the way the Brewers cooled over the last month of the season and with all of their pitching injuries and uncertainty. Anything can happen in a best-of-five series. It doesn’t help that Milwaukee went 2-4 against the Padres this year and 6-7 against the Cubs. Neither are great matchups.

At the end of the day, it falls on the Brewers, in the unfair but equitably harsh environment of MLB postseason chaos, to “prove” that they are not the same old October underachievers of years past. Really, they don’t need to prove anything – it was a great season, take it or leave it – but that’s not how outsiders will grade their accomplishments.

Milwaukee’s final exam is not far off. With Freddy Peralta on the mound for the Brewers, American Family Field will host Game 1 of the second round on October 4, time to be determined.
