MLB Umpire Catches Unexpected Stray After Missed Calls in Angels-Dodgers Game

On Thursday morning, the Umpire Scorecards account released its grade for Bucknor's performance. The account graded him at 90% accuracy and 90% consistency. Some fans were surprised by the favorable marks.

In the process, the veteran umpire caught an unexpected stray.

"Bro. Better vision. Better calls," the official LASIK account replied.

LASIK — a laser eye surgery that corrects nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism — also responded in July after comments about the WNBA officiating from New York Liberty star Natasha Cloud.

"Doesn’t even need the glasses, we offer all WNBA refs LASIK for free!" the account wrote.

As for Bucknor, his controversial outings are nothing new. In 2023, The Big Lead ranked Bucknor as the second-worst umpire behind recently retired Angel Hernandez, and Bucknor has had a few instances this year where fans left the game with raised eyebrows.

Earlier this year, he missed 28 calls in a game between the Cincinnati Reds and St. Louis Cardinals.

Fans in Disbelief After Bucknor's Grade Surfaces

Bucknor is a veteran who umpired his first MLB game in 1996, but on Wednesday left fans frustrated even more.

When the scorecard grade surfaced, many people replied negatively.

"Ain’t no way his accuracy was 90%. lol," one fan wrote. "I think 90% is EXTREMELY generous for this game," another said.

Fans also hopped on the robot ump debate and stated their excitement with the new ABS (automated balls and strikes) system coming soon.

"Literally changed the outcome of the game. I'm no Dodgers fan, but we can't get the ABS system soon enough," another wrote. "Angels won and I’m happy but we seriously need robo ump cuz this is disgusting," another said.

All in all, it was not a good day for Bucknor, and fans are once again not pleased.
