With MLB fans seemingly still in awe at how dynamic of an athlete Los Angeles Dodgers two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani is, there appears to be a new kind of jaw-dropping phenom set to take the sport by storm.
In the team's Friday evening Spring Breakout game against the Cleveland Guardians, the Seattle Mariners gave fans a taste of switch-pitcher, Jurrangelo Cijntje. The Netherlands native and product of Mississippi State was taken with the No. 15 pick in the 2024 MLB draft, and has the extremely rare ability to throw 90+ with both his right and left arm.
He threw two innings, allowing one unearned run on two hits, with two walks and two strikeouts.

Ironically, he only threw one pitch left-handed, which happened to be against the No. 1 pick of his class, Travis Bazzana. The top pick in the draft grounded out on the first pitch, before Cijntje pitched with his right arm for the rest of his outing.
According to MLB insider Daniel Kramer, Seattle plans to use him more as a righty, which happens to be the hand he throws harder with.
"Seattle intends to develop Cijntje as a right-handed starter, which is his better pitching arm and possesses a denser arsenal that features a higher-velocity four-seamer, slider, cutter and changeup," wrote Kramer. "But the Mariners also don’t want to sacrifice his lefty skill, because there is plus potential from that side, where he’s up to 93 mph with a sinker/slider combo."
As one could imagine, when the MLB's account posted about Cijntje, fans had a lot to say. Especially since the admin poked fun at a 2015 Pat Venditte article that labeled the former Oakland A's pitcher "amphibious" (can live on land in water) instead of ambidextrous (can use both hands efficiently).

The post garnered over two million views, and will certainly have fans on the lookout for Cijntje in the future.
They may have to wait a while, as according to Kramer, it has yet to be revealed which affiliate team he will begin his season with.
