MLB’s Post on Dodgers Star Shohei Ohtani Catches Attention

No matter what Shohei Ohtani does, it’s headline-worthy in the world of baseball. The Dodgers' superstar recently made his first appearance on the mound this season and continues to perform as one of the game’s most elite hitters.

Ohtani is the undeniable leader of a first-place Los Angeles Dodgers team looking to win back-to-back World Series titles. The Dodgers entered Wednesday night at 45-29, riding a four-game win streak.

Before Wednesday's game, MLB posted a photo of Ohtani arriving at Dodger Stadium in his signature New Balance gear. The caption read:

“Shohei aura is unmatched.”

Reactions came in quickly, and not all of them were glowing:

This fan said, "We need to abolish the word aura immediately."

A strong statement: "Dork. Doofus. Etc. Not denying his talent, but no. There is no aura here."

"It’s a guy walking. And a guy standing there. Literally all it is," commented this fan.

More of the same from this fan: "Zero aura."

"Every dad that volunteers at school matches this aura," joked here.

This fan joked: "Ben Verlander running this account?"

Despite the social media heat, Ohtani’s numbers speak for themselves.

He entered Wednesday night batting .293 with 25 home runs and 43 RBIs. At age 30, he ranked second in all of MLB with a 1.021 OPS.

During the series against the Padres, he went 2-for-8 with a double. Before that, he went 5-for-6 and hit two home runs in an 11-5 win over San Francisco.

On the mound, Ohtani made a brief but effective pitching debut, throwing one inning and allowing two hits and one run.

Following their four-game series with the Padres, the Dodgers stay home for a set against the Washington Nationals beginning on Friday night.
